History

Bicton Netball Club (BNC), located in Bicton, Western Australia, has been a cornerstone of the local netball community for over 45 years. Established in 1977 by Sheila Lansbury—who even hand-sewed the club’s first pink and black uniforms—the club has grown from a small group of families at Bicton Primary School into a thriving, inclusive community for players of all ages and abilities.

In the early years, the club was sustained by the energy of families and volunteers, with training and games creating a strong community spirit. The introduction of the Net Set Go (NSG) program around 16 years ago was a turning point. By running NSG at Richmond Primary in Term 4, BNC built a pathway for younger players, starting with two Under 8 teams, and has continued to grow steadily ever since.

Leaders like Mandy Simonetti played a vital role in building the club through connections with schools and Fremantle Netball Association (FNA). That foundation has allowed the club to offer opportunities for both competitive players, who aim for higher divisions, and those who prefer a more social experience—ensuring there’s a place for everyone.

The heart of Bicton Netball Club has always been its volunteers. Coaches, managers, and committee members generously give their time to make the club special. In recent years, the development of coaches at the FNA level—particularly through the work of Bec and previously Miika Coppard—has created lasting improvements in player development. Their leadership has inspired younger players to step into coaching roles themselves, creating a cycle of growth and mentorship that will sustain the club well into the future.

Today, Bicton Netball Club is proud to field teams across multiple age groups and divisions, balancing competitiveness with community. Whether players join to develop their skills, make friends, or simply enjoy the game, they’ll find a welcoming environment built on teamwork, encouragement, and fun.

At BNC, we like to think one of our greatest achievements is simple: we’re a club where everyone belongs—and we’re all super nice. ❤️
